Rectum? Damn Near Killed Him!

I found this on the page of a Facebook group called Awareness/Prevention/Fight Against Colon Cancer. I think it's pretty great. When I was first diagnosed, I felt so awkward sharing about my diagnosis and talking about my rectum. Now I don't have to feel awkward talking about my rectum. In fact, the phrase "my rectum" need never cross my lips...because I no longer have one!!!

  1. Funny!! I feel the same way about my breasts! Used to not talk about them too much in normal conversation. Now when I tell people I had breast cancer, first thing they do is look at my breasts.(awkward!) Then they usuallly say, "Did you have an, UH?... and then, like I owe them an explanation, It tell them reassuringly, "No I only had a lumpectomy and lymph node dissection and I'm in 20 weeks (that's 5 months) of chemo soon to be followed by 6 weeks of radiation." Early detection, people. Don't neglect.

  2. You gotta have a sense of humor. What's the saying? If I didn't laugh, I'd cry. I talk more about my breasts and about my bodily functions now than I ever did before this last breast cancer diagnosis. I'm sure that most people are thinking, TMI!
