Fatigued

I am very tired today - definitely a chemotherapy side effect. I took a nap for a few hours and I still feel quite tired. I only got up because I was hungry. Tomorrow I will go to Guthrie in Sayre, PA and have the 5-FU pump removed from my port and then spend the next 12 days recovering until I have my next treatment. It's supposed to be nice and hot tomorrow. I am definitely looking forward to it.

In the mean time, I am going back to the couch to rest. It is so odd to feel so exhausted. And, I am only scheduled for four more weeks of this. That puts a smile on my face.

  1. Bert,

I like the picture of the two of us. The camera uncannily caught our essence.

  2. Bert,

That fatigue... could you have ever imagined being that tired?! I know I didn't. I had radiation five years before for my first breast cancer, and I had fatigue then, but the chemo fatigue... oh my God!

I wouldn't be surprised if your oncologist told you at your next bloodwork appointment that you had anemia. That's inevitable, and it's what causes that wall-hitting fatigue.

I'm glad you are napping - I was really bad at that, always fighting to stay awake, and for what?

The good news is that I am here, five weeks after the end of chemotherapy, and even though I do get more tired at the end of the day, I do not live with that fatigue from chemo anymore. So, I guess I'm telling you that "this, too, shall pass" after your body heals from the chemo.

In the meantime, enjoy your naps, and use the time between treatments to heal as best you can.

I am always thinking of you and Daniela, and wishing you the very best. Like you, and like your Mom, I can't wait for the surgery to be done so that you can get the stamp of health from your doctors and get on with your healing and with your life.
